Westcomb Liberty Technical Tights
a review by Chelsea Yamase
Westcomb Ambassador, Chelsea Yamase is an explorer, adventurer (not to mention a talented surfer, climber, kayaker, gardener, designer and model) and an all-around beautiful embodiment of Hawaiian culture! She resides on the island of Kauai, the oldest and most northern island in the main Hawaiian island chain. Kauai is an outdoor paradise with a temperate climate all year round, no snakes, alligators, or land predators of any kind. It’s a microcosm of all these beautiful and completely different climates and place- an adventurer’s paradise!

Chelsea has been wearing our Liberty Technical Tights since May, and has used it extensively throughout her adventure activities — climbing, backpacking, yoga, running and more.
I liked the style of the stitching, it looks cool but also makes them feel very durable. The pocket is a winner and not something I’ve had on any other pair. I call them my adventure tights because they make me feel like I’m ready to go!”
Liberty Technical Tights: FIT & COMFORT
Very easy to move around in, range of motion wasn’t hindered at all. They don’t seem to snag like my cotton blend pants do. I like that they are evenly fitted throughout the whole tight, meaning it doesn’t rely on a super tight waist band to keep them in place. Is it weird to say I think they make my butt look good? For me personally I could probably have them the slightest, slightest bit tighter in the upper thigh/crotch area, super minimal. I always feel that most leggings are too high on my waist so I would prefer that inseam to be shorter, but I think that’s just a personal style preference.
Q1: What size do you wear, and in comparison to the tights you usually sport, how do they compare?
I’m 5’5″, 113 lbs, 32-25-33in. I wear an XS which is pretty typical for me. Fits great as is, and would be perfect if they were slightly tighter at top as a personal preference.
Q2: How does the fabric feel?
The Liberty Technical Tights had a good balance between stretch and structure. Some leggings have a bit too much “give” to them and end up being slightly loose or saggy by the end of the day or some are too tight and squeeze your hips uncomfortably; these did neither.
Q3: How is the length of the tights?
The length is perfect for me, hitting right near my ankle bone.
Q4: Do you find the material and fit comfortable?
Extremely so. The material neither pinched nor chafed, and is very smooth against your skin with the right amount of stretch and support.
Liberty Technical Tights: FEATURES & DURABILITY
The goal in creating the Liberty is to have a technical tights that delivers on comfort, style and performance. One of the development challenges related with the material selection; finding a soft material that delivered true compression value for muscle recovery yet remained durable enough to weather any snags or pilling from abrasion without being constricting.
Q5: What do you like about these technical tights?
I liked the style of the stitching, it looks cool but also makes them feel very durable. The pocket is a winner and not something I’ve had on any other pair. I call them my adventure pants because they make me feel like I’m ready to go!
Q6: Name one thing you would change?
I would make them slightly lower rise. They’re comfortable where they are, but I think I’m just used to wearing things a bit lower.
Q7: How long have you been wearing your tights? and how has the abrasion performance been so far? Any pilling between the thighs or butt area?
I’ve been wearing the Liberty tights regularly since May, and so far no unsightly pilling which is awesome! A while ago I did go hiking to Blue Hole (waterfall area) and managed to tear a hole. I was moving pretty fast and hit a pointy stick pretty hard so my whole knee was bruised for a week.
Q8: What are some of the features you liked?
- Versatile weight, I can wear them here in Hawaii and also in slightly cooler temperatures
- Side pocket a huge plus
- Compression stretch offers support
- Abrasion resistance
Q9: What didn’t you like? What improvements are needed?
- Nylon material while more durable doesn’t dry fast (I don’t know if they’re made to go in the water, but I use them for river hikes sometimes. Not uncomfortable to wear them wet though)
- Need more colors
- Prefer low-rise
?Thanks Chelsea! ?
